Diplonaut helps students compare the rules for studying internationally using official sources. We collect as little personal data as possible: most of the comparator works entirely in your browser. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights.
Who is responsible for your data
Diplonaut (diplonaut.com) is an independent publication about the official rules for international students. For any question or request about your personal data, contact us through our contact form and choose the topic “Something else”.
What we collect and why
- Your comparator settings stay on your device. Your nationality, study level, language, currency and the destinations you watch are saved only in your browser (local storage). They are never sent to us, and you can erase them by clearing your browser data.
- Visit statistics. We use Independent Analytics, which runs on our own server, to count visits: pages viewed, the site you came from, your approximate country, and your device and browser type. We do not use advertising trackers or follow you across other websites.
- Contact form. When you write to us, we receive your name, email address and message, stored in our website database, so we can reply and correct errors you report.
- Comments. If you comment on a guide, we store your name, email address, comment and IP address. Comments are checked for spam by Akismet, a service of Automattic, which receives these details for that purpose.
- Feedback surveys. If you answer a short survey on the site, we store the answers you choose to give.
- Emails we send. Replies and site notifications are sent through an email delivery service connected to our site.
- Hosting and security logs. Our host, Hostinger, keeps technical logs (IP address, browser, date and time) to keep the site secure and working.
- Fonts. Some fonts on the site are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address.
- Daily status and exchange rates. The comparator and homepage load two small public files (the time of the last official-source scan and the European Central Bank exchange rates) from GitHub, so your browser connects to GitHub, which receives your IP address. No other information is sent.
- Share buttons. The share buttons are plain links: nothing is sent to WhatsApp, X, LinkedIn, Facebook or Telegram unless you click one, and what happens next is governed by that platform’s own privacy policy.
What we never do
- We do not sell or rent your personal data.
- We do not share your data with universities, schools or recruitment agents.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
If we ever add partner links (for example for health insurance or blocked accounts), they will be clearly labeled, and this policy will be updated before they go live.
Legal basis
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we rely on our legitimate interest to measure visits, keep the site secure and filter spam; on your request when you contact us; and on your consent where we ask for it.
How long we keep data
- Contact messages: up to 12 months after our last exchange.
- Comments: for as long as the comment is published.
- Visit statistics: up to 24 months.
- Hosting logs: kept by our host for security purposes, under its own retention policy.
Transfers outside your country
Some providers, such as Automattic (Akismet), Google (fonts) and GitHub (status files), may process data in the United States. These transfers rely on the safeguards those providers offer, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its use, or to receive a copy of it. Contact us using the details above; we reply within one month. If you are in the European Economic Area, you can also complain to your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL). If you live in California, you have the right to know and to delete the personal information we hold about you; we do not sell or share it.
Children
Diplonaut is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We will update this page when our practices change and show the date of the latest version at the top.
